Immaterial and material values are the basic input for a project. The values generated by the project should be a multiple of the invested value. The question of values and ethics in a project management context has rarely been systematically discussed. But often managers of projects, programmes and portfolios face the same crucial questions:

• Is the project based on value proposition?
• Will initial position, objectives and constraints of the project be accepted within and outside the project team?
• Is the planed multiplication factor between input and result values realistic and satisfactory?
• Can I myself fully align with the project goals?
• What are the long-term effects of the project?
• Is the project an its consequences economically, ecologically, legally and socially sustainable and in line with the expectations of the stakeholders?

The consideration of values to projects, programmes and portfolios is a compulsory behavioural element in the IPMA Competence Baseline. A new phase of development will be started in this IPMA International Expert Seminar. Values in projects need to be addressed systematically. The seminar will make a contribution to understanding values and ethical issues affecting projects and the development of methods and approaches in projects and project management. Experts from various sectors of the economy and university departments as well as from different cultural and religious backgrounds will discuss the topic and develop solutions based on various case studies, research results and theories.
